ABSTRACT
This study was carried out on the effects of contraceptive patronage and risk involvement among female secondary school students using selected secondary schools in Asaba, Delta State as case study. To achieve this, five significant research objectives were formulated. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of all the female secondary school students in selected secondary schools in Asaba, Delta State. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 120 respondents while 105 were received and 100 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage, while the hypothesis were tested using Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that there is an effect of contraceptive and risk involvement on female secondary school student. Also there is a significant relationship between contraceptive patronage and awareness level among female secondary school student. In regard to the findings, the study recommends that Knowledge on, attitude towards and practice of contraceptive among female junior secondary school students in Asaba is high. This calls for an aggressive awareness campaigns to raise the level of knowledge of students on implications of high contraceptive usage. And Government could partner the media houses to make information dissemination more effective. Policy makers working in the field of family planning should engage the social-media more in reaching the youths with contraceptive-related information.
